Tommy the Tank

As seen in: Mutually Assured Destruction #

The predecessor to Thomas the Tank Engine, this anthropomorphic military vehicle teaches children life lessons.

Episode One: Tommy the Tank learns how to empathize when he shoots someone on his first day of deployment. “Did he have a family?” Tommy wonders.

Episode Two: Tommy the Tank learns about perseverance when he thinks he’s too tired to crush another ten Nazi soldiers’ skulls with his cold, metallic tracks, feeling his lust for blood grow with each mutilated corpse. Ultimately though he believes in himself and achieves his goal.

Episode Three: Tommy the Tank learns about sharing when one of the other tanks, Tony, tries to hog all of the day’s targets for himself. After the head tank intervenes, Tommy and Tony each shoot down multiple enemy hospitals, but more importantly, they learn the value of taking turns.

Episode Four: Tommy and his new friend Tony learn about self-control when they are tempted to blow up a German civilian family they encounter in the street. “This war’s changed us,” solemnly remarks Tommy.

Episode Five: Tommy and Tony are returning to camp after a hard day on the battlefield. Tommy turns back to retrieve his dog tags when he hears the explosion. As he turns around, he sees what’s left of his friend scattered around the exposed land mine. What has Tommy done? If only he hadn’t gone back…his thoughts trail off as he realizes the cruel reality of this world. Tommy gets back to Tony’s side and frantically tries to wipe away the pool of oil that is forming on Tony’s face, but it just keeps oozing out of his cracked hull as he winces in agony. “Tommy…you’re my best friend” whispers Tony the Tank between short breaths as his lifeless body collapses into Tommy’s arms. Tommy sheds a single tear. He learns about the importance of family when he informs Tony’s widow and children about their loss.

Episode Six: Tommy learns not to seek revenge when he charges into Berlin, firing at everything he sees. “This one’s for Tony!” he screams as he heartlessly watches another child’s body explode into a fiery pile of blood and gore. As he heads back to camp, the consequences of his actions dawn on him. Sure he might’ve found vengeance for Tony, but at what cost?

Episode Seven: Tommy the Tank no longer feels anything. He knows that he’s gone down the wrong path, but there’s a war to win. With a cold numbness in his heart, he captures the wife of a Nazi officer. He learns about imagination when he pretends he isn’t waterboarding the woman.

Episode Eight / Series Cancelled: Tommy the Tank learns to follow directions when he is taken as a prisoner of war and is sexually abused for refusing to give up his unit’s location.
